Odyssey/Siren Song Essay
Homerââ¬â¢s epic poem Odyssey tells the story of Odysseusââ¬â¢ encounter with the Sirens and their deadly song which is shown in Margaret Atwoodââ¬â¢s poem ââ¬Å"Siren Song.â⬠When comparing each text, it is found that the Sirens are portrayed as temptresses that trap you with their beautiful, ââ¬Å"honeyed voices.â⬠The tone in the epic poem is bright in the beginning when Homer writes ââ¬Å"Heliosââ¬â¢ burning raysâ⬠and ââ¬Å"the sun at high noon.â⬠As the poem progresses, it takes on an ominous tone that shows Odysseusââ¬â¢ self-control as he ââ¬Å"stop[s] the ears of [his] comrades one by oneâ⬠with beeswax. He also has his men ââ¬Å"[bind him] hand and foot in the tight shipâ⬠¦lashed by ropes to the mast.â⬠These two examples show Odysseus fighting against his desire to listen to the Sirenââ¬â¢s song. When Homer writes ââ¬Å"and the heart inside me throbbed to listen longerâ⬠it shows how very hard it is for Odysseus to ignore the Sirenââ¬â¢s call. In Margaret Atwoodââ¬â¢s poem, the tone that is set is one of bereavement. The three Sirens understand that they are beautiful and that their call is tempting to every man but they consider the song as a ââ¬Å"cry for help.â⬠The Siren that is speaking in ââ¬Å"Siren Songâ⬠refers to her trio as ââ¬Å"fatal and valuable.â⬠Imagery is used in both of the texts to portray the Sirens as beautiful women. For example, from Homerââ¬â¢s first-person point of view, they have ââ¬Å"honeyed [and] ravishing voices,â⬠and from Atwoodââ¬â¢s first-person point of view, the Siren speaks of the trio as ââ¬Å"picturesqueâ⬠and ââ¬Å"mythical.â⬠The Siren that is speaking in Atwoodââ¬â¢s poem refers to her trip as ââ¬Å"feathery maniacs.â⬠The imagery in this poem makes you pick up a subtle tone that the Sirens are like temptresses. They reel in the men with their gorgeous, tricky call even though the men can see the ââ¬Å"beached skullâ⬠which symbolizes their fate of death. Their song may be ââ¬Å"boringâ⬠but, in the Sirenââ¬â¢s words, ââ¬Å"it works every time.ââ¬

Student Collegiate Record System
CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION Background of the Study The Student Collegiate Record or SCR is playing an increasing role in the working stratagem of registrars. It enables them to hold and access the information of students like name, student number, date of birth, citizenship, gender, parents or guardian, occupation, permanent home address, schools graduated, course, year, subject, total number of units and final grade. The registrar records, edits and keeps all the information of old and new students thereby making the school's operations streamlined and effective. The existing SCR at AIE College International ââ¬â Laoag Campus makes use of enrolment forms to obtain the necessary details from the enrollees. After which, the registrar records and saves these information in MS Excel. The registrar keeps each of the studentââ¬â¢s records with a number attached (ex. IL-11-000478). The first two letters which is ââ¬Å"ILâ⬠represents the AIE branch designation, the ââ¬Å"11â⬠numeric sign represents the year the student was enrolled and lastly ââ¬Å"ex. 000478â⬠represents the student number. Each student is only given one student number during the course of his education. The registrar then stores the hardcopy of files in bookshelves and the softcopy is kept in the computer. However, the registrar processes the information of the students individually so it takes a long period to finish all the papers. The registrar said that dealing with the studentââ¬â¢s records manually is at times unmanageable because of the bulk of files to be checked one by one. The filesââ¬â¢ security and confidentiality are also an issue since they are susceptible to access by unauthorized people and can be destroyed by unexpected circumstances. With this case, we proposed the ââ¬Å"Registrarââ¬â¢s Student Collegiate System of AIE College International-Laoag Campusâ⬠to help the registrar minimize the time consumed in generating the records and information of the students. It will provide efficient enrollment process because it can track the subjects that the students have to take. It will be capable of storing, updating and securing the academic record of the students and through this, it will produce a more reliable and accurate studentsââ¬â¢ report. Statement of ObjectivesGeneral Objective To create a computerized system providing efficient enrollment process, accurate academic record maintenance and reporting, and sound student information and data management for students, faculty, and staff of the college. Specific Objectives ?To create a system that will accurately generate records such as student personal information, subjects to be taken and grade status of the students ? To come up with a computerized system that will reduce burden in tracking the students information ?To maintain a central system of complete educational records for the school ? To create quality Students' Permanent School Records ?To maintain and to safegua rd the confidentiality of Student's School Permanent Records Importance of the Study The results of the study on the computerized registrarââ¬â¢s student collegiate system are believed to benefit the following: Registrar ââ¬â the study can help her work easier and faster in finding studentââ¬â¢s record even if the student doesnââ¬â¢t know or remember his student number. She will be able to check studentââ¬â¢s records and ensure that he/she has completed all of the requirements. Students ââ¬â the study will provide them sound information about their school record Researchers ââ¬â the researchers are benefited from this study because it will test their skills in making a system and provide them further insights about the effectiveness of the proposed registry system at their school Future Researchers ââ¬â they may adopt ideas on how to build a system of another school or company Scope and DelimitationThe study will focus on the improvement and development of the registrarââ¬â¢s work to give accurate information of the students. It will lessen the errors that are provided by the hardcopies, and problems on editing the information of the students. This system will work easier and faster in looking or finding studentââ¬â¢s record. This system canââ¬â¢t give the fees to be paid by the student. It is not capable of generating class schedule and the instructor that will handle the subject. It is intended to give the subjects to be taken, to check if the student passed or failed on his/her subjects and to show the final grade. Definition of Terms The following terms are defined for clarity and better understanding of this study. Bulk- it refers to all the records of students in a large quantity of hardcopies. Computerized ââ¬â it refers to the use of computer to process oneââ¬â¢s work easier. Files ââ¬â compilation of documents

Photojournalism Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Photojournalism - Essay Example the local radio in Perth, we see the balanced interplay of photojournalistic element and recorded narration of the radio presenter, with the latterââ¬â¢s speech receiving immediate visual support of the photo material created by the photojournalists ââ¬â from the studio environment the character from the video works in to the outdoor community festival photos. In fact, the viewer would be able to obtain rather sufficient information about the event even with the smaller amount of the speaking on the part of the radio presenter: the range of pictures has a clearly organized sequence and well-captured moments: dancing, martial arts demonstration, singing, food fair and so on. However, audio support provided by the speaker adds more information and raises informative value of the video clip, for the radio presenter gives detailed comments on what is going on in the pictures. Looking at the video, one could definitely state that the material is presented in a highly objective and neutral manner with photos being of good quality and their ââ¬Ëstepping rateââ¬â¢ being rather suitable for the viewer (whose eye will be able to ââ¬Ëexamineââ¬â¢ the picture within the given interval), which indicates the good work of the photo

Geological Structures and Physiographic Provinces of the United States Research Paper - 1
Geological Structures and Physiographic Provinces of the United States - Research Paper Example On closer examination physiographic provinces can be subdivided into physiographic sections, each being an area inside a province basically due to geographic distribution. Every section can be separated into physiographic districts, each being an area in a local landforms section. The pacific province has a number of features which include; Olympic Mountains, Puget Trough, Klamath Mountains, Oregon Coast Mountains, Los Angeles Ranges, California Coast Ranges and the California Trough. These materials provide a diversity of soils and river nutrients that originate from them. Geology differences and formation time of these ranges influence the hydrology, geomorphology, and the biology of rivers and streams which arise in individual regions (Lew, 2004). The entire pacific province mountain system has been described having been arranged in a chain. The pacific mountainââ¬â¢s climate is varied compared to all other regions; the annual cycle has been consistent every year. Although, extreme interannual variation occurs, leading to long drought periods and yearââ¬â¢s extreme runoff and high rainfall for instance El Nino events. The main distinct difference between the mountain system of the Sierra Nevada and the mountain range of Cascade is that the Sierra Nevada is a tilted fault block that rises 4,420 m which is equivalent to 14500 ft high. It also supports pine and fir trees while the Cascade is marked by several stratovolcanoes, which are relatively active. The Sierra mountain system stands alone while the Cascade Mountain Range stands to be chains of mountains. The Cascade Mountain Range is still active. The coastal plain extends down the Atlantic Ocean Eastwards from the Fall Zone. Large tidal rivers, Rappahannock, James, York and the Potomac flow southeastward to the Chesapeake Bay where they empty into Atlantic Ocean. The topography is a terraced landscapes which stair-steps down into major rivers and the
Principles, Theories, and Practice of Learning Essay
Principles, Theories, and Practice of Learning - Essay Example The essay "Principles, Theories, and Practice of Learning" talks about the process of learning which is as a result of practice, training, or experience. For behavior change to occur, the learner must be in a position to express the impact of learning when confronted with a condition that necessitates the expression of the acquired knowledge. Operant conditioning theory expresses the behavior as a function of its consequences. In essence, an action that produces positive consequences is easily repeated over a longer time. On the other hand, behaviors that yield negative consequences are shunned. Skinner demonstrated the application of the operant conditioning theory using rats in a box. In this case, demonstration, whenever the rats pressed on a small bar in the box, food would come out. This positive feedback resulted in a constant pressing of the bar by the rats hence behavior change. This theory exonerates voluntary behaviors as a manifestation of learning. The practicality of ope rant conditioning can be enhanced in a classroom environment through rewarding of exemplary performances. Awarding prizes to learners with different skills and abilities inclines them to uphold such behaviors. Award of prices boosts the morale of the learners and compels them to exploit all avenues for good performance. Cognitive learning theory assumes that everyone is conscious of his or her actions and behavior. It asserts that learning is achieved through the pre-coded relationship between the stimuli and response.

Mind-Body Problem Summary Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Mind-Body Problem Summary - Essay Example Descartes discussed mind-body issue in the different dimension that came to be known as dualism in the philosophical arena. The approach of ââ¬Ëmechanical philosophyââ¬â¢ began emerging during the 17th century that was based on the premise that objects interact through direct contact; however, Descartes tended to emphasize that language did not lie within the realms of mechanism. For him, thought process was a separate entity distinct from the physical body. Newton argued that planetary and terrestrial motion in the universe did not follow the mechanical philosophy. He essentially wanted to convey that anti-materialist things did exist in this universe. Newtons assertion of mysterious force, curved space, electrical force goes beyond the concept of body or matter entirely. While quantum theory in physics and chemical bonding in chemistry helps explaining a unified universe, does this mean that mind/brain as a unified object can best explain the language and mind phenomena in humans? Many attempts to reduce mental properties to neural network phenomena; however, that lead to several serious questions. Considerable efforts have been made to show that mind is nothing but matter, and language thought processes are properties of brain. It is the neurophysiological activities of brain that causes mental phenomena. Naturalism or materialism, as a theory, got resurgence in the 1960s attempting to establish the belief that mental state was, in no way, different than physical entities. That is to say matter is as compatible with thought and sensation as with attraction and repulsion. Organized system of matter known as brain eventually lead to perception and thought process. In a way, emergence of thoughts in humans is all through nervous system of brain. Brain acts as a mechanism to create thoughts in humans. While Newton did expose the imperfectness of the mechanical philosophy, his

Core competences are critical capabilities to a business achieving competitive advantage. The starting point for analysing core competences is recognising that competition between businesses is as much a race for competence mastery as it is for market position and market power. So the goal is for management to focus attention on competencies that really affect competitive advantage. 4 Potential sources of core competences * Distribution * Marketing * Management * Manufacturing 4 criteria used to evaluate core competences * Valuable * Rare * Costly to imitate * Non substitutable 3. What should an audit of resources include? The resources available to a business whether it be owned or obtained through partnerships, joint ventures or simply suppliers arrangement with other businesses. The assessment of the strength and weakness of an organisation in conjunction with an assessment of opportunities and threats. What are the strategic options for competing in a Mature Industry? Prune marginal products and models * Emphasize innovation in the value chain Strong focus on cost reduction * Increase sales to present customers * Purchase rivals at bargain prices * Expand internationally * Build new, more flexible competitive capabilities 5. Define the Value System The Value System is the set of interdependent situations within a business which both directly or indirectly adds value to the customer and ultimately generates a net cash inflow. This also provides a key link between competitive strategy and shareholder value. Even though the value system bears some resemblance to Porterââ¬â¢s value chain, the latter is perhaps less flexible and less easily tailored to the variety of the modern business.

However, Swinton Hotel Management has very simple stage of reservation system for advance room booking or get any information about hotel. Inaddtion, A management is facing many issues with this present system. Here, we are going to present what are the major issues in present system? 2.1 Current System Specification First of all, we collect all information about Current system through interview with manager and staff members. Manual Data Sheet Screenshot of Excel Database A management of Swinton Hotel is using simple this format database for customer. First of all, its very difficult to unique identification of customer. Means that, not allocate any facility which can identify user unique information. For instance, if same name customers come then its very difficult to identify. Secondly, Staff does manual entry for tourist which is very difficult to manage during the peak time or vacation time periods. Last but not least, its very complicate for other staff members to understand this system. Only one staff member is able to handle this complicated system .So, for future point of view itll be difficult for management. Telephone Reservation Change Telephone Reservation system in this Hotel done by Telephone which is one of the major issues with management. Customer can get room information through telephonic it is time consuming. First of all, a manual room checker will check room whether room available or not? And passed information to the call receiver. Furthermore, other disadvantage of telephonic reservation thats, cost of call. Because, sometime its very expensive to make call. So, in this situation its very expensive to reserve a room via telephone through current reservation system. Manual Room Checking In present system, to access room information need to allocate one staff for checking all information about available room in hotel for traveller. Basically, there are main two separate cost elements. First is cost that covered the registration of domain name and Internet space for hosting the site. In addition, second element is creation of website. There may also be some on going maintenance costs depending on how often you require changes to be made to the site when it is complete. First of all, management of the SWINTON hotel will not pay any amount for system up to three year. Because, the organization has done big deal with some outsourcing small IT company. So, for domain name, space and any other specification IT company will responsible. However, if the management of SWINTON HOTEL needs to pay some amount after three year. This will cost only à £30 every year. In addition, management of hotel is not giving any cost for developing a new system to solve problem of the old system. Furthermore, management has benefits at initial stage in this web platform. If in future any problem will create regarding system then IT company will responsible up to three year. So, for management point of view it is major advantage. [https://auctions.godaddy.com/?ci=13335] [http://www.toucher.co.uk/website_cost.htm] 3.5 Impact of the Proposed Changes The purpose of the new system is to provide better services to traveller, so they can able to access important details and also reserve Hotel room through website. John Bergers Ways of Knowing Essay example -- Ways of Knowing Essays
In his first essay of Ways of Seeing, John Berger claims that all power, authority, and meaning that was once held by an original work of art has been lost through the mass reproduction of these works that has occurred in recent years. He writes of an entirely bogus religiosity (116-117) that surrounds these art objects and that the meaning of the original work no longer lies in what it uniquely says but in what it uniquely is (117). He claims that because of reproduction, the art of the past no longer exists as it once did (127). Obviously, something created hundreds of years ago is not the same as it once was, but the distribution of art and music to the general public has had a positive effect on society rather than a negative one. Works of art have even more meaning than they had when first created through the interpretations offered them by generations of critics and artists. Fresh new sources have been given the ability to offer their insight and abilities into art, creating en tire new genres of art, music, theatre, and the like. It has allowed for a truer search for knowledge than was ever possible before. And ultimately, the search to find the true meaning of art and of the ideas of the artists forms a true sense of religiosity, which gives passion and meaning to the lives of groups stretching far beyond the cultural elite. An example that Berger uses to illustrate his points is that of a filmmaker who uses images in film. Berger states that Awhen a painting is put to use, its meaning is either modified or totally changed (120) and when a painting is reproduced by a film camera it inevitably becomes material for the film-makerââ¬â¢s argument (121). He concludes from this that only the original painting holds integrity while the image shown on film is an expression of the film-makerââ¬â¢s argument. However, this idea furthers the meaning of the painting by adding connotations to the one the artist intended. When an artist creates a painting, he or she hopes for this work to be critiqued and interpreted by others. These critiques and interpretations add to the full meaning of the work for everyone seeing it afterwards. Thus, we undermine the true meaning of the work by saying it can only mean what the artist originally meant it to, because this is something we can never know. The viewer should deter mine the value and meaning of each painting. The paintings... ...nable future of what we could have, and is empowered by envy. Ultimately, Berger claims that the sublime quality of art has been transformed into simple information through reproduction, when in reality; this type of culture has always been about information. Through reproduction, we can strive for a truer sense of information, in reaching the true meaning of art rather than using the information for a sign of status. It is no longer a matter just of knowing of art and culture; it is a matter of knowing about it. The available levels of information have increased, and have allowed more people to experience a true sense of religiosity toward art, music, and other culture than was ever previously possible. Rather than ruining the integrity and credibility of culture by offering it to the masses, it remains a symbol of status and power for those who wish to use it as such, and has become a source for passion and knowledge for others. It has also allowed new ideas and insight to thes e fields from non-traditional sources. Finally, instead of taking away from the meaning of original works of art, reproduction has added to it. Sabah Issue
The armed intrusion into Sabah by Sulu terrorists is a blow to the progress of the BIMP-EAGA (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines-East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA), says BIMP-EAGA Malaysia Business Council chairman Datuk Roselan Johar Mohamed. Expressing profound dismay over the incident, he called on BIMP-EAGA member countries to go back to the original status quo, focusing more on accelerating economic development in the four countries in a safe and conducive manner.Quoting the age-old saying ââ¬Å"we cannot negotiate if you are pointing a gun at meâ⬠, Roselan said that it was true in the context of the sub-regional grouping, which was launched in 1994. ââ¬Å"We must all retract and go back to the drawing board, rethink and revisit our strategy and go back to the negotiating table,â⬠he told Bernama.Roselan was commenting on the recent statement by Former Philippinesââ¬â¢ President Fidel Ramos with regard to the standoff in Lahad Datu in the east coast of Sabah , that the BIMP-EAGA should be revived by the countries concerned as the grouping was the key to improve the peopleââ¬â¢s conditions in south Philippines, Borneo Island and adjacent areas. ââ¬Å"The BIMP-EAGA is the win-win strategy if we are looking from the perspective of a better, more prosperous, more peaceful, more harmonious and more sustainable future for all peoples,â⬠Ramos was quoted as saying.Ramos said the potentials of the BIMP-EAGA were so great that even foreign local governments such as Australiaââ¬â¢s Northern Territory and Western Australia states had joined the grouping as associates. Ramos said that during his administration, he tried to set up a corporation that would develop the BIMP-EAGA sub-region. The company is to be jointly run by Malaysia, the Sulu Sultanateââ¬â¢s heirs and private sector partners. The companyââ¬â¢s revenue can substitute the annual RM5,300 as the rent to the sultanateââ¬â¢s heirs, Ramos said. In this respect, Roselan acknowledged Ramosââ¬â¢ role in the establisment of BIMP-EAGA, saying that the Former Philippinesââ¬â¢ President was both vocal and wise when he initiated the BIMP-EAGA concept together with Malaysiaââ¬â¢s former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Self-determination
In life, there are many things that people believe in that will help them succeed in their life. Some may believe in intelligence or others may believe in a certain talent they have. All the things people do believe in that will help them succeed in life; these things require one to have determination. Determination is defined as the act of coming to a decision or settling a purpose. In other words, when you want something, you must have it, no matter what it takes you to receive it. In this paper, I will discuss the importance of determination and where it can cause a person to reach. What is determination? Determination is the most important trait that anyone will have to live with. Itââ¬â¢s a characteristic that will encourage and inspire yourself and also those that are around you. Determination is having the willingness to accomplish something no matter how hard it may seem to accomplish. It causes people to have strength in a time of weakness. When people are determined, it a llows them to do their best and aim for their goals in life. I remember having to run the mile run in the military and we had to have a passing score. It came to a point during running the mile where I wanted to quit and stop running. I was feeling weak and I wanted to stop but I knew if I stopped running, I wouldnââ¬â¢t pass the run. So I drilled it in my mind to keep running so I can pass. I became determined in my mind to pass my two mile run and I passed. There are different ways a person can be determined. A person can be self determined. Self determination is when a person focuses on their own natural or intrinsic tendencies and allows themselves to behave in effective way.In other words, they focus on their own personal goals they have set for themselves and they do whatever it takes to reach that certain goal. Edward L. Deci and Richard R. Ryan of the University of Rochester believe in the Self-Determination Theory. Their theory is that determination is motivation. This co uld be true but for the sake of arguments, this theory will not be discussed in this essay. Another form of determination can be noticed in a team or group of people. Being in a team allows people to have more than one person to keep them encouraged. For example, if one person is working out by themselves, it would be a little harder to run laps or lift weights alone versus, being in a group where you have multiple people encouraging one another. Determination will always have a positive effect on anyone. People gain many different things from being determined to reach their goals. Being determined will allow one to get the job they have always wanted. It allows one to become more confident in themselves. It allows one to never give up but to always strive for what they want. I myself being in the military have taught me a lot about determined. It has showed me through determination, if I continue to strive for what I want in life, I am able to attain it no matter what I have to get t o reach it. Determination should be applied throughout everything we do in life. If we work a 9-5pm job every day, we should stay determined to do our best on the job. If we want to become an actor or actress, we should stay determined and strive to become the best actor or actress there is. Anything that we do, determination should be our most important characteristic. In sum, determination works through each and every aspect of our lives. No matter if weââ¬â¢re working on a 9-5pm job, if weââ¬â¢re trying out for a sports team or even if weââ¬â¢re working to finish our homework assignments on time, determination helps us to reach our goals and deadlines we set for ourselves. We should always strive for what we want and this is where determination enters our mind. Railroads
It was first developed in England in the 17th century. In the year 1827, The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad (B&O) was the first to offer scheduled freight and passenger service to the public in the US and quickly became the prime mover of people and goods. Due to the rapid increase in demand, importance and feasibility, rail tracks could be laid anywhere and the volume of land potentially available for development expanded tremendously. In the beginning it was difficult o predict with certainty which sites with rail road access will be in demand and at what price. Soon Railroads became the principle mode of transportation and areas started depending on rail access for growth and survival. Many municipalities also paid subsidies to private rail road firms to provide service to their communities. The giant rail road companies not only received the right-of-way from the government but also millions of acres of land along their proposed route. The companies got half the land within 6 to 40 mil es of the right-of-way and the government retained the other half. The companies sold some of their land at appreciated prices and also retained vast acreage so that they can mortgage it and get capital. This turned out to be a good idea especially when politicians and citizens tried to force the sale of land. Over the years, railroad companies have retained ownership of immense quantity of urban and rural land. The land has been sold, leased, developed and has been used for all purposes. Even today, in many cities, rail road companies are still the biggest private land owners. Some of them have even formed real estate divisions to get greater returns on their assets.

The Federal Hpv Vaccination Programme Health And Social Care Essay
There are a figure of ethical issues that arise in proviso of health care services. Although most of the health care enterprises are meant to assist the targeted population overcome wellness jobs they are meeting, proviso of these services has ever been ridden with ethical contentions. One of the recent health care enterprises that have been surrounded by a batch of contention is Federal HPV Vaccination programme. This programme was meant to inoculate all misss between the age of 12 and 26 to protect them against HPV that causes cervical malignant neoplastic disease and venereal warts. However, there are different ethical issues that arose in the class of execution of the school-based programme. It was argued that the plan was implemented as a consequence of increased advertizement by the pharmaceutical companies about the effectivity of the Gardasil vaccinum while there was no scientific study that backed the effectivity of the vaccinum. This was considered as indefensible response to moral issues because there was no adequate grounds back uping the usage of the vaccinums. However, the authorities still insists that the plan was meant to make good for the targeted population sing that cervical malignant neoplastic disease and venereal warts are going major public wellness concern. This is merely one of the health care initiatives that have led to great public tumult when scrutinized in different ethical positions. Healthcare services are meant to assist the population overcome major wellness jobs they face but at the same clip they attract a batch of contention due to struggle of involvement. In order to understand this job good, this survey will reexamine the Federal HPV Vaccine Programme and the ethical issues that arose as a consequence. The survey will first expression at the Federal HPV Vaccination Programme including its aims. The survey will so reexamine the ethical issues that arose from this programme and analyse one of the jobs through ethical positions. The Federal HPV Vaccination Programme Human Papillomavirus ( HPV ) is a group of viruses that are known to do skin warts, venereal warts and different types of malignant neoplastic diseases. There are different HPV that affects different parts of the organic structure with some of them infecting the venereal countries. Warts that are found on other parts of the organic structure like the custodies are known to be caused by different types of HPV. HPV types 6, 11, and 18 are known to do malignant neoplastic diseases with types 16 and 18 linked to cervical malignant neoplastic diseases while types 6 and 11 are linked to venereal warts ( Winer, Hughes & A ; Feng 2006: 2648 ) . Due to the increased prevalence of venereal warts and cervical caners, there have been concerted attempts aimed at developing a vaccinum to cover with the job. HPV is spread by direct contact or during sexual activities. It is estimated that approximately four out of five people are likely to hold venereal HPV infection at some times in their lives ( Parkin 2006: 3035 ; Australian Government, 2010 ) . This is the chief ground why HPV vaccinums have become of import for misss who are sexually activity. The major job with HPV is that it does non do symptoms that people can see ( Winer, Hughes & A ; Feng 2006: 2649 ) . This means that people can hold HPV and non cognize because there are no apparent symptoms. In 2007, the Australian Federal authorities began one of the most ambitious immunisation programmes. It began funding voluntary plan that made Gardasil available and adult females between the age of 12 and 26 old ages for free within a period of two old ages ( Christian 2006: 12 ) . The authorities besides ensured that there was an on-going inoculation programme that targeted 12 and 13 old ages old in schools. Australian authorities, in concurrence with PBS ( Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme ) approved the vaccinum for public usage and instantly began a national broad programme for school misss aged 7 to 12 old ages ( Poljak & A ; Gemman 2006: 9 ) . The plan has been run by the local councils but the support is provided by the authorities. However, it is argued that the subsidisation of the vaccinums by the authorities could hold been implemented under political influence. Even the curate stood up and said that the programme would be approved long before it received authorities blessing. In add-on, the authorities outlined that adult females between the age of 18 and 26 old ages could besides have the first dosage for free but they had to petitions it from their general practicians ( Christian 2006: 12 ) . However the programme was scaled down to 12 and 13 old ages misss merely after 2009. In add-on, the authorities had approved Gardasil for inoculation of male childs aged between 9 and 15 o ld ages although the authorities did non supply support for boys inoculation ( Christian 2006: 12 ) . The authorities besides directed that in the procedure of disposal of the vaccinums, general practicians should remind their clients that they should besides go on with the regular pablum vilification ( Parkin 2006: 3042 ) . It besides directed them to promote adult females who received the vaccinums to register with National HPV Register for supervising intent. The National HPV inoculation programme registry is used to roll up informations in order to measure the impact of the HPV inoculation on the rates of cervical caners. It is besides used to measure the success of the programme in coverage and if the contact vaccinum receivers required a supporter dosage ( Poljak & A ; Gemman 2006: 9 ) . The registry is of import in helping the authorities recognize its mark of cut downing the prevalence of venereal warts and cervical malignant neoplastic disease among adult females. Ethical issues Like other healthcare enterprises, there are different ethical issues that arise. In the class of history, there have been medical enterprises, particularly those that involve the mass, which have resulted to ethical jobs ( Zimmerman 2006: 4815 ) . Ethical contentions are likely to ensue every clip there is aggregate disposal of vaccinums to forestall spread of diseases. One of the chief issues that arise in such plans is safety. Although there are laboratory and research studies that confirms that safety of these programmes, issues of safety comes in the class of execution of the programme or long after the programme has been winded up. The chief issue of safety when it comes to disposal of vaccinums is that receivers feel that their safety can non be guaranteed because they have non been involved in preparation of the vaccinums or when there is no adequate informations that supports the safety of the vaccinums ( Shciller & A ; Lowy 2006: 1168 ) . Another job that arises in the clas s of public wellness programmes is the issue of informed consent ( Zimmerman 2006: 4815 ) . Although it may be outlined right from the start that the programme will be voluntary, there are propagandas that arise in the class of the programme that convinces the receivers that they have been forced to have the vaccinums. The other job that may originate after such a programme is the usage of options. In most instances, new vaccinums are introduced in such public programmes but the continued usage of the earlier health care services may be affected. For illustration it has been shown that in instances where HPV vaccinum has been administered, most receivers are likely to predate regular showing for malignant neoplastic disease ( WHO ) . The populace can non merely understand why they have been introduced to a new vaccinum and yet they are requited to go on utilizing the old methods of testing like Pap smear. There were a figure of ethical issues that arose in the class of execution of The Federal HPV Vaccination Programme. The first ethical issue was based on the fact that there was non scientific cogent evidence that backed Gardasil as an effectual vaccinum in bar of HPV ( Zimmerman 2006: 4817 ) . Two of the recent articles that were published by New England Journal of Medicine suggested that the vaccinums against cervical malignant neoplastic diseases was used without adequate grounds to shows that they were effectual in undertaking the disease ( Zimmerman 2006: 4815 ) . The writers of these two articles noted that despite the fact that there has been assuring consequences from clinical tests, there was still no sufficient evident to endorse the effectivity of the vaccinums against cervical malignant neoplastic diseases. There as so many indispensable inquiries that still need to be answered and the populace should be cautious when seeking these vaccinums. A recent study that was released in New York Times showed that these vaccinums have been studied for a short period of clip and long term effects are yet to be established The vaccinums was licensed in 2006 after clinical tests that lasted for more than six old ages but this did non bring forth any grounds to demo their effectivity ( Roden, Ling & A ; Wu 2004: 979 ) . Most of import inquiries that have non been answered sing the vaccinums is the continuance the unsusceptibility will last and whether extinguishing strains of the cancers-causing virus is likely to diminish the degree of bodyaaââ¬Å¡Ã ¬aââ¬Å¾?s natural unsusceptibility to other strains of the same virus. Cervical malignant neoplastic disease normally develops after the persons have been infected with chronic HPV and there is no cogent evidence to demo that vaccinums will protect the organic structure against two strains of the virus that are known to do cervical malignant neoplastic disease ( Shciller & A ; Lowy 200 6: 1169 ) . One of major ethical issues that arise from the programme is that the authorities could be enforcing uneffective vaccinums on the population ( Colgrove 2006: 1390 ) . In most instances, medical programmes like The Federal HPV Vaccination Programme are perceived from a useful position in the sense that they are supposed to assist the population. The result of the programmes like The Federal HPV Vaccination Programme should assist the targeted population wellness wise ( Verweij & A ; Dawson 2004: 3126 ) . With this perceptual experience in head, the chief purpose of execution of The Federal HPV Vaccination Programme was to help Australian misss fight cervical malignant neoplastic diseases and venereal warts. However, the involvement of the authorities could non hold been good informed in visible radiation of the studies published in New England Journal of Medicine that shows deficiency of scientific cogent evidence to endorse disposal of this vaccinum in contending cervical malignant n eoplastic disease. Was Australian authorities justified in the usage of Gardasil to contend prevalence of cervical malignant neoplastic diseases in misss sing that there was no adequate scientific backup to turn out it? This is a inquiry that needs to be interrogated through different ethical positions but the involvement of the parties involved must be taken into consideration. Earlier, it was mentioned that the authorities determination to transport out The Federal HPV Vaccination Programme was influenced by political powers ( Haas 2009: 289 ) . There is all ground to interrogate the determination by the authorities to perpetrate more than $ 160 million of the taxpayeraaââ¬Å¡Ã ¬aââ¬Å¾?s money on a vaccinum that has non been proved effectual. First, this meant that the authorities had to relocate financess from other health care plans into order to fund this programme, which led to less financess available for other critical health care disbursement like on of import herceptin and other bosom medicines. This can be considered as a misplaced precedence that was implemented on land of political influence. Closely tied to this issue is concern about increased advertizement of the vaccinum by pharmaceutical companies ( Yudin 2010: 56 ) ) . For many old ages, the pharmaceutical industry has been criticized for advertisement merchandises that have non yet be en proved. Hungry for immense net incomes, the pharmaceutical industry has been publicizing their merchandises long before they have undergone proper vetting process to declare them suit for human ingestion. This is an ethical issue when one considers the effects that such merchandises may hold on the population. In a nut shell, the pharmaceutical industry can be applauded for puting in R & A ; D to guarantee development of drugs and vaccinums to control lifting instance of malignant neoplastic diseases. However, their influence on the political category may take the authorities to take determination like the one taken by Australian authorities for the involvement of these companies. They understood really good that with the authorities backup of such a programme, there would be increased ingestion of their merchandises interpreting to immense net incomes they are seeking in the market ( Schwartz 2010: 1843 ) . Therefore, there is a likeliness that the determination taken by Austral ia authorities could hold been influenced by the pharmaceutical companies that had carried out extended advertizement on the effectual of Gardasil in contending cervical malignant neoplastic disease. Is it possible that the authorities has fallen quarries to strategies by pharmaceutical companies to publicize their merchandises? Did these companies influence the political category to approve the plan in order to function their ego involvement? These are many others are inquiries that need to be closely interrogated when sing the influence of the political category and the pharmaceutical companies on authorities determination to turn over out The Federal HPV Vaccination Programme. However, it is apparent that the increased advertizement on the effectivity of the vaccinums could hold had major influence on the authorities while implementing this plan. In add-on, there were moral issues that could be explored in visible radiation of The Federal HPV Vaccination Programme. The desire by the authorities to implement the programme could hold been elicited by the demand to protect 1000000s of immature misss in the state who a hazard of cervical malignant neoplastic diseases. In another position, it can be argued that through execution of this programme, the authorities assumed that Australian immature misss are prosecuting in sex, the most common method for transmittal of HPV. Australian parents were bullied into a medical response to one of the most controversial moral issue of sex. This was perceived as another programme by the authorities in its safe sex battle. It is acceptable that immature male childs and misss are prosecuting in sexual at a clip that is non appropriate but this does non vouch the authorities to pump false information about protecting immature people from such disease ( Verweij & A ; Dawson 2004: 3124 ) . The issu e of HPV is closely tied to sexual activities among the immature people and the best manner that can be used to cover with it is through plans that discourage immature misss from prosecuting in sex ( Roden, Ling & A ; Wu 2004: 980 ) . Alternatively of the authorities directing such financess to programmes that will assist kids cover with sexual issues during stripling, the authorities goes on to administrate vaccinums that tells immature people that they have license to prosecute in sex because they are aaââ¬Å¡Ã ¬Aââ¬Å"protectedaaââ¬Å¡Ã ¬A? . Oppositions of The Federal HPV Vaccination Programme argue that due to increased public trust on the Gardasil vaccinums, there is likeliness of lessening in usage of Pap smear that has been proved effectual in diagnosing of cervical malignant neoplastic disease ( Zimmerman 2006: 4814 ) . Although the Australian authorities has directed medical professions administrating the vaccinums to promote adult females to travel for regular Pap vilification, there is high likeliness that most adult females are likely to abstain from seeking pablum vilification and rely on the vaccinums which has non been proved effectual in combating cervical malignant neoplastic disease. Another ethical issue that arose in the class of the plan is informed consent. This is one of the most of import ethical demands in biomedical programmes where the participants have to be informed of the purpose of the programme and objectives it will accomplish. The Federal HPV Vaccination Programme dealt with immature kids who were non in place to do their ain determination sing their engagement in the programme ( Verweij & A ; Dawson 2004: 3123 ) . Harmonizing to ethical theories, when covering with kids below the age of 18 old ages, parental consent must be sought before the kid participates in such a programme. By implementing The Federal HPV Vaccination Programme without affecting parents in blessing of the programme, the authorities violated one of the basic ethical demands. In this programme, parents should hold been involved in doing the determination whether to implement the programme or non. Although the ultimate purpose of the authorities was to protect immature misss fro m cervical malignant neoplastic disease, this does non vouch the demand to compromise the rules of informed consent and pick. Informed consent and The Federal HPV Vaccination Programme One of the ethical issues that arose from this plan was the issue of informed consent and pick. The issue of informed consent requires that participants in any medical procedure must be informed of their purpose of the procedure and they should give their consent to take part in the programme. This means engagement must non be compulsory. This rule requires that when covering with kids below the age of 18, who can non do their ain determination to take part in such plans, parental consent must be sought ( Verweij & A ; Dawson 2004: 3126 ) . This means that their parents must be informed of the engagement of their kids and give their consent. The Federal HPV Vaccination Programme was intended to cover with the job of cervical malignant neoplastic disease in misss. From a useful position, the programme should hold produced good consequence for those take parting in the programme. It was supposed to cut down the prevalence of cervical malignant neoplastic diseases among adult female in Australian and this was asses through HPV Register. All medical enterprises like The Federal HPV Vaccination Programme are assessed through useful position because they are expected to hold positive consequences to the populace ( Smart & A ; Williams 1973: 62 ) . A programme that produces negative consequences would be considered a liability to the authorities and the participants as good. The taking ethical rule for public wellness programmes is that they should bring forth good results for the mark population. However, this was non the instance in this programme because there were negative effects that were registered after The Federal HPV Vaccination Programme was implemented. In add-on, the useful attack to this issue does non vouch the authorities any right to go against basic rule of informed consent and pick ( Smart & A ; Williams 1973: 62 ) . There were different ways in which the authorities violated this rule. First, it was earlier highlighted that despite public concern, the Prime Minister had already indicated that the plan would be approved. This meant that the authorities was non ready to see any input from the mark population. The execution of the programme should hold involved the mark population and acquire their blessing whether to take part in the plan or non. Although the authorities had earlier indicated that engagement in the programme was voluntary, school based programmes did non adhere to this rule ( Verweij & A ; Dawson 2004: 3125 ) . Out of their artlessness, and possibly without any cognition of the possible consequence of the programme on their wellness, school traveling misss flocked to have the vaccinums. In such instance the authorities should hold called all parents foremost and informed them of the at hand programme so that parents could do their determination whether their kids should have the inoculation or non. If the authorities failed to affect concerned stakeholders, who in this instance were parents, during the blessing of the programme, parental blessing should hold been sought by the clip the programme was being implemented at school degree. In order to cover with this ethical job, the authorities should recognize the importance of the rule of informed consent and the pick of participants ( Verweij & A ; Dawson 2004: 3125 ) . They should esteem the liberty of Australian school misss and seek the consent of their parents before kids receive vaccinums. Although some may reason that the harm has already been done because a figure of kids have already received the vaccinum, this should non be a ground to disregard pertinence of this rule. Sing the negative effects that have already been registered with the vaccinums, the authorities should every bit good halt the vaccinum until its effectives has been proven. This will guarantee that the rights of Australian misss to do informed pick will be respected. Decision Most medical programmes that target the mass are sometimes loaded with many ethical issues. From the basic point of blessing of such plans, pick of participants, enlisting and disposal, these programmes attract different contentions. The Federal HPV Vaccination Programme is one of such programmes that have attracted ethical contentions. From a useful position, this plan was meant to cut down the prevalence of cervical malignant neoplastic diseases among adult females in Australian. However the pick of Gardasil vaccinums remains controversial because there is no scientific information that backs the effectivity of the vaccinums. In add-on, the blessing of the plan was besides controversial because parent involved was non sought at national or school degree, which means the rule of informed consent was violated. Sing the negative consequence of the vaccinums on those who have received it, the authorities should instantly hold the plan until the effectivity of the vaccinums has been app roved. In add-on, authorities should besides affect the populace in the hereafter when doing of import public wellness determinations because they are stakeholders.

Liberalism Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Liberalism - Essay Example Liberalism The theory of liberalism centers on a number of assumptions. The first assumption is that both state and non-state actors play a vital role in international relations. Liberalism values sub-state actors such as multi-national corporations and individuals. These actors can influence global politics (Shiraev and Zubok 389). The second major assumption under liberalism is that international relations encompass both cooperation and conflict. Liberals argue that since state are linked by finance and trade; they have incentives to cooperate with one another. This rationale allows the reduction of trade barriers such as tariffs. The democratic stability theory is also part of the second assumption and centers on the presumption that democratic states do not go to war with one another and that democratic countries do not instigate conflict. Liberals argue that democracies have shared values and norms thus identify with one another. Additionally, democracies are not subjected to military cont rol. The third assumption of the theory of liberalism is that states are not typically unitary or rational actors thus leaders play bi-level games by simultaneously negotiating with foreign leaders and making choices that maintain their constituenciesââ¬â¢ happiness.economics can all be the most vital goal of a state. . The article speaks to the issues of international relations on environmental issues, specifically pollution and deforestation.... The primary issue is that of the environment and business as palm companies operating in Indonesia illegally burn forests so as to pave way for palm plantations. This is a recurring problem in the country. The issue of air pollution and deforestation presented in the article affects the South Asian region. The theory of liberalism holds that sub-state actors are primary instigators of international relations issues. Multinational companies that own palm plantations in Indonesia are some of the greatest masterminds of deforestation and the illegal slash-and-burn practices as they clear land for their plantations. The issue is a major problem for the actors since environmental issues such as deforestation and air pollution can affect an entire regions. The multinational corporations involved in polluting the air and deforesting lands are also bound to be impacted by the ensuing poor air quality. Like the corporations, other institutions and individuals in the region are also affected. For instance, airlines lose business as they planes are grounded while people suffer from breathing difficulties or lung diseases. The problem is experienced the same by all parties because, according to liberalism, environmental issues can dominate the international agenda thereby impacting the entire nation. All actors in the South Asian region are impacted by the consequences of palm plantationsââ¬â¢ slash-and-burn practices. This means that the environmental issue is a collective problem, which according to liberals, is at the center of international cooperation (Shiraev and Zubok 367). The issue at hand is a demonstration of how financial power plays a significant role in shaping international politics. Indonesian officials argue that companies headquartered in

Acid base and redox titration of vitamin C Lab Report
Acid base and redox titration of vitamin C - Lab Report Example 1:1 Moles of vitamin C 0.0031938mol Mass of vitamin C 0.564g Percent of vitamin C in the tablet 85.5% Table 2:The table below summarizes the results if the redox reaction experiment Data Trial Mass tablet used 0.67g Molarity of I3- (moles/L) 0.0990mol/l Initial volume of I3- (mL) 4.1 mL Final volume of I3- (mL) 28.6 mL Volume of I3- used 24.5 ml Moles of I3- used 0.0024mol Vitamin C: base molar ratio 1:1 Moles of vitamin C 0.0024mol Mass of vitamin C 0.43 g Percent of vitamin C in the tablet 64.18 % The equations used to find the answers in the trials are written bellow, Equation for table 1 C6H8O6(aq) + NaOH(aq) -> H2O(l) + Na+(aq) + C6H7O6-(aq) Equation for table 2 C6H8O6(aq) + I3-(aq) -> 3 I-(aq) +C6H6O6(aq) + 2H+(aq) Discussion/Conclusion:Chemical properties of substances initiate reactions. The reduction property of vitamin C, for example, is responsible for the chemicalââ¬â¢s property to initiate reactions with other chemicals. The acid has a high tendency to donate electron s to other chemicals forming a basis for reactions. Based on stoichiometry and known information of a chemical in reaction with vitamin C, elements such as the number of moles and even mass of vitamin C can be determined from a reaction that can be either an acid base reaction or a redox reaction. The acid base reaction involved sodium hydroxide solution, the base in the reaction, and vitamin C, the acid. The equation for the reaction is given as follows C6H8O6(aq) + NaOH(aq) -> H2O(l) + Na+(aq) + C6H7O6-(aq) Vitamin C was oxidized in the process while sodium hydroxide was reduced. The redox reaction is on the other hand represented by the following equation, C6H8O6(aq) + I3-(aq) -> 3 I-(aq) +C6H6O6(aq) + 2H+(aq) The oxidation reaction is given by the following equation C6H8O6(aq)->C6H6O6(aq)+... The accurate titration is the acid base reaction. This is because it offers the same percentage composition as indicated on the vitamin C tablet used. The experiments offered different results. While the redox reaction yielded a percentage composition of 64.19 percent, the acid base reaction yielded 85.5 percent. The difference in the numbers could be due to a number of errors. The first type of error that could have led to the difference is inaccurate measurement of the reactants. Such could occur in measuring readings in the titration process for the redox reactions.

Patient expierence undergoing surgery Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1
Patient expierence undergoing surgery - Essay Example Surgery represents a major trauma that provokes a relatively stereotyped physiological response. A period of postoperative recovery follows, ranging from a few days to several weeks depending, primarily, on the severity of the pre-existing pathology and the surgical procedure performed (Munafo & Stevenson, 2001). For many patients, undergoing surgery can be a daunting thought. It has been shown that the majority of patients admitted to hospital for elective surgery experience anxiety preoperatively. The cause for pre-operative anxiety can be attributed to many factors. Personal factors may include fear for the unknown outcome of the surgery, as some very risky surgical procedures can result in paralysis, coma and death, as the worst case scenario. Some patients also experience anxiety concerning the impact of their condition to their loved ones. Monetary issues as to the cost of the surgery itself, pre and post ancillary procedures, medications and hospital rates is also known to be a major cause of anxiety for most patients. Anxiety and stress are unpleasant sensations and can also adversely influence the surgical procedure as well as affect the patients recovery (Badner, Nielson, Munk, Kwiatkowska & Gelb, 1990). Therefore, it is the objective of this paper to determine the physiological effects of surgical interventions as well as positioning on the patient, taking into consideration the effects of anxiety and stress on a patients perspective. For this case, the surgical procedure being used as an example is hysterectomy. Hysterectomy is defined as the surgical removal of the uterus. The three common types of hysterectomy are: supracervical (partial) hysterectomy, which is the removal of the uterus without the cervix, total (complete) hysterectomy which is the removal of both uterus and cervix and radical hysterectomy which removes the ovaries, fallopian tubes, lymph

Theology of Immigration Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Theology of Immigration - Assignment Example While Congress is making new laws evangelical Christians, on the other hand, are protesting and trying to make sure that these laws are in accordance with the teachings of the bible regarding immigration and how immigrants should be treated. An immigration law that ensures justice, values an individualââ¬â¢s self-esteem and does not affect the countryââ¬â¢s image as a welcoming country. A fair immigration law will help in making the countryââ¬â¢s economy and society stronger. Immigrants have played a significant role both in American history and bequest, due to this Americanââ¬â¢s should encourage immigrants to take part as American citizens who pay taxes, vote in elections and work legally (Staver, 2013). Immigration laws should consist of suitable fines, timings to wait for their hearings, a proper background check should be done, confirmation regarding honorable character and loyalty towards America by learning their native language. The Bible regarding the issue of im migration states that people need to make to make a choice between greeting the immigrants which will direct them towards endless paradise and not greeting the immigrants will direct them towards endless penalty. (Staver, 2013) In this paper, we will discuss what the Bible says regarding the issue of immigration and will also put light on the issue of Iraqi immigrants and what the Christians have to say about it.à The topic of immigration usually creates a gap between devoted parishioners and denominational ministers, a number of Catholic bishops believe that illegal immigrants should be given official pardon. They are constantly working in the favor of open borders. The codes of conduct stated by their religion are the basis for many American policies and their politics. The Christians who form the policies and the Christian citizens of the United States may perhaps want to take into account how the Bible looks at the issue of immigration. The United States has an extensive rela tionship with Christianity and its effect on the process of policymaking. The Bible clearly states rules about some issues of public policy making, however on a few issues nothing is said clearly so people themselves have to interpret what the Bible is saying. à (Edwards, 2009) The Bible has told its people the role God has determined for the Civil Government of the country. It specifies that those with power need to maintain law and order in the country, look after the citizens and penalize those who commit a crime. à (Edwards, 2009) In 1 Peter 2:13-14 NIV it is said: ââ¬Å"Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.â⬠This tells us that those who are making the laws have a very serious responsibility given to them.Ã

Managing Strategy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Managing Strategy - Essay Example Introduction PESTEL is a model that considers the Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Environmental as well as legal aspect (Thomson & Strickland, 1998). It is considered as one of the models that can be successfully used particular for groups that are considered to be more private focused. Such groups may be victims of being oblivious to the effect of the external forces since their focus is laid on the internal forces. In studying the European Tour operation, PESTEL had been exhaustively practiced to arrive at the current status of the industry. Discussion According to the study, Political factors such as Government policies and trading policies were central to the growth. A case in point is the outcome of the competition authority clearance which witnessed the merger between Thomas Cook and the British Competitor MyTravel, an integrated international group. The economic situations and trends were also awakened the industry, where players like TUI responded to the actions o f Thomas Cook by the acquisition and merger with First Choice. These home economic situations and trends tighten the competition in the European Tour and Operation Industry. The economic situation was also concerned with the Industry specific factors where the Thomas Cook adopted flights that gave the customers choices of chartering plans rather than DO It-Yourself and thus assured security and good value for the vacationers. Economic factors such as interest rates also influenced the operations of players like TUI. This was witnessed where an anticipation of a sustained weakness of the pound against the Euro and the expected increase in unemployment made TUI to cut summer capacity by 27% to the British travelers in 2009. These economic factors also saw Thomas Cook undergo reorganization after experiencing continuing decrease in revenue. On consideration of the social factors, TUI got involved in low cost airline which was expected to get to the average families as well. TUI also go t itself different brands all over Europe and world at large to present different images in different environment, which they successfully did through travel agents as well as having there different brands of Tour operator selling not only fully packaged tours but also individual travels components. Competing Technological Development also shaped the tours operations in Europe. The observation that call centers and online bookings combined, in 2005 accounted for 25% of the sale gave an indication that technology had given the business of Tour operation a new face all together. This is also observed when online Travel Agencies are noted to have been moving quicker than the traditional Tour Operators who were seen to be going down the hill. The Literature also elaborates that tours operators no longer competes exclusively amongst themselves but face competition from online channels. The maturity of technology seemed to have played a very significant role in the development of tour ope ration in Europe. When it comes to environmental factors, clearly, Consumer buying patterns played a role in the determination of the progress of the industry the fact that a number of structural changes between US and UK. Comparing Films About The Christopher Columbus Movie Review
Comparing Films About The Christopher Columbus - Movie Review Example This restraint is not felt by those individuals seeking new stories or new ways of telling old stories through the bright lights of Hollywood as a means of gaining consumer dollars. Approaches to historical subjects vary widely depending upon the motivations of the filmmakers in the creation of their film. This can be seen most clearly when comparing those films, typically classified as documentaries, that aim to educate rather than entertain and those films, appropriately labelled entertainment, whose primary function is to entertain an audience and bring box office dollars into the producerââ¬â¢s pockets. While each may contain significant similarities as the entertainment film is based upon fact or the documentary strives to keep its audienceââ¬â¢s attention, there remain significant differences between the two types of film. Comparing A&Eââ¬â¢s biography of Christopher Columbus with the 1992 Hollywood production entitled ââ¬Å"Christopher Columbus: The Discoveryâ⬠, significant differences can be found in style, reporting of sources, adherence to and limitation by verifiable facts, overall presentation and inclusion of created elements. Because of their different target audience, each type of film approaches their subject in its own unique style. The documentary presents its facts as snippets of individual interviews held with a panel of ââ¬Ëexpertsââ¬â¢, presenting both the information and the credentials at one and the same time. The storyline is based upon a step by step relation of facts regarding Christopher Columbusââ¬â¢ life supported by a similarly open and straightforward style. Lighting is kept bright, allowing little or nothing to hide in the shadows. Tricks of the camera are kept to a minimum as well, typically focused from a stationary spot within the expertââ¬â¢s office or panning slowly across a picture or sketch.

Catch a Fire Essay Example for Free
Catch a Fire Essay The book ââ¬Å"Catch a Fireâ⬠is a beautiful description of the Jamaican culture, the Rastafarian faith, the growth and development of reggae music and how it all added up to make Bob Marleyââ¬â¢s life. All of those elements of what made Bob Marley ââ¬Å"humanâ⬠will be talked about and explained in this paper. The best artists are the ones who have passed but there work still lives on and Bob Marley left an unforgettable mark on modern music, both as a reggae creator and as a cultural icon. His beliefs and values helped him become a part of the Rastafarian faith and grow into a great musician whose music is still listened to today. The author, Timothy White, did an amazing job describing Bobââ¬â¢s background giving his readers a much greater appreciation for Marley and his music. Jamaicans are often stereotyped as carefree and fun loving. While most Jamaicans do value a sense of humor, as well as music and dance, they also have a tradition of hard work and a strong respect for education. Bob Marley, the son of a black teenage mother and much older white father, was born in Jamaica in the village known as Nine Miles. Born early in 1945, Bob was raised by his mother and relatives and was always surrounded by tales of mysticism and spiritual beings of the Jamaican culture that influenced his daily life. Around the time Bob was born, in 1944, Jamaicans gained the right to vote because of the new constitution. (1) During this time the population grew and there werenââ¬â¢t much job opportunities, leading to an expanding slum population. Class, color, and ethnicity were a big deal in Jamaica and would play a huge role of where you would fit in, work, or even shop. Bob once said, ââ¬Å"I dont stand for black mans side, I dont stand for white mans side, I stand for Gods side. â⬠(2) The Jamaican history has not been a peaceful one, but its struggles have created one of the strongest cultures. The Rastafarian faith was one of the biggest influences of why Bobââ¬â¢s music and the way he lived was the way it was. It all started with Marcus Garvey, who was responsible for bringing Rastafarianism to the islands. Garvey was famous for the saying Look to Africaâ⬠¦ (ââ¬Å"Catch a Fireâ⬠pg. 8) This statement set the stage for what will be the making of Rastafarianism. Rastafarianism got so popular that when Haile Selassie came to Jamaica in 1966 over 100,000 Rastas surrounded his plane. The late 1960ââ¬â¢s is when Bob truly began to find himself and accept his religion and put its beliefs into his songs like ââ¬Å"Rastaman Vibrationâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Jah Live. â⬠Not only did the Rastafarian faith help Bob with his music, it helped him find who he really was and grow as a person. He finally started to see the beauty in life. Marley started making music in ska and Rock Steady then eventually moved towards reggae as his music evolved. Much of Marleys early work was produced by Coxsone Dodd at Studio One then he signed to Chris Blackwells Island Records label in 1971. Marleys music was one of the main reasons reggae was accepted outside of Jamaica. Although Bob couldnââ¬â¢t escape all the troubles of the ghetto, without music, he would have been right there in Kingston with those rude boys and bad men causing trouble. Music brought out the best in Bob and showed him the true values of life. The ââ¬Å"King of Reggaeâ⬠, Bob Marley made such an impact on the music industry with his creativity and passion he put into his music and performances. As you can see, Bob would have never made it happen without his Jamaican cultural background, his Rastafarian faith or his love for music. His thinking and beliefs were always voiced in his songs speaking of love, peace, equality and his spirituality. And, after almost three decades since his death, his music is still listened to by millions of people around the world.
